Volume 4, Resources 11: Diversity in Stock Photos and Anti-capitalist Affirmations
This is a public issue of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice. Feel free to share it!
Hi friends! This past weekend we went cherry picking again and also picked up more of the amazing strawberries this season has to offer. We made a ton of cherry preserves. We also made a roasted strawberry and buttermilk ice cream from the Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream cookbook and I made this strawberry cake (recipe):
Also, as I mentioned on Instagram, we picked up my mother’s ashes. It was a tough weekend and I spent a lot of it cooking and baking my feelings.
On the plus side, I have regained the spell slots to slowly get back to sending snail mail and it feels good!
It’s resource week, so let’s get to it!
Resource #1: A roundup of diverse stock photo roundups
There are some really low hanging fruits when it comes to inclusion and one of them is diversifying the stock photos you use if you build websites, create things for market or even blog posts, give presentations, and whatever else you would use stock photos for. It doesn’t always have to be the same, mostly white women laughing alone at a salad. I should have a photo taken of me laughing at a salad and give it to you all for free. You can just plop me into all your PowerPoints.
Anyway, I want to make this easier for you by giving you some roundups of where to find not only racially diverse but diversity of body size, age, gender, ability, and more. Some of the options recommended via these links are free and some include a fee.

Resource #2: Anti-capitalist Affirmations
I have found these affirmations incredibly useful for me, personally, and I return to them frequently. Original reel and words by Femislay here (and more of their wonderful affirmations here), post shown below with image descriptions by The Body is Not an Apology here.
Before I close out, I want to share my friend Violet’s GoFundMe. She had moved for safety reasons and everything with the move has been absolute hell. She grew up on the streets and I can’t even imagine how traumatizing this is and I want nothing more than to wrap her (and the kitties) in a ball of safety. Please give if you are able, and/or share. You can also buy her phenomenal book, A Fish Has No Word For Water: A punk homeless San Francisco Memoir on Bookshop or Amazon.
