Volume 4, Resources 12: How to Find a Good Therapist and TGI Justice
This is a public issue of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice. Feel free to share it!
Hi friends! Happy Pride weekend for all of you here with me in the SF Bay Area! I feel like an entire year has gone by since my last newsletter a week ago. So much has happened. I’ve had a friend over and taught them about a subject in my wheelhouse, which was unexpected fun. I made a pitcher of roasted strawberry lemonade for Juneteenth and have officially ruined myself and Nicole for any other strawberry lemonade. We went to the beach on Summer Solstice and took a little walk because being near the ocean never fails to fill my well. And in sad news, my cousin’s husband passed after having a very aggressive form of cancer. The family has a GoFundMe to help pay for the burial and I will be attending another funeral very soon which is giving me many feelings. So, yeah. A lot has happened.
On top of all that, has anyone else felt really unfocused and restless lately? Just me? How is anyone getting anything done right now? (She says as she mysteriously is able to write a newsletter. I know. I’m not saying any of it makes sense.)
Resource #1: How to Find a Good Therapist via KC Davis
I have recently rediscovered the joy of listening to podcasts and I’ve been making my way through my backlog of Struggle Care with KC Davis, the author of How to Keep House While Drowning (Bookshop | Amazon | Libro). I recently listened to Episode 26: How to Find a Good Therapist and I absolutely had to share it here. You can find it where you get your podcasts and I think it was only about 26 minutes long. Here is a link to the show notes and transcript. She has some incredibly helpful things to think about when you are looking for a therapist including questions to ask in order to make sure that the person you are interviewing to work with is a good fit.
If podcasts aren’t your thing, I understand! On her site she also has a How to Find A Therapist resource and even better, a free pdf: How to Find a Therapist PDF guide (free, better visual layout).
Resource #2: TGI Justice Project
Less of a resource and more of an organization doing important work that I want people to know about and support. If you haven’t yet donated to an LGBTQIA+ organization during this Pride month, this is one to look at. From their site:
“TGI Justice Project is a group of transgender, gender-variant and intersex people, inside and outside of prisons, jails, and detention centers, creating a united family in the struggle for survival and freedom. We work in collaboration with others to forge a culture of resistance and resilience to strengthen us for the fight against human rights abuses, imprisonment, police violence, racism, poverty, and societal pressures. We seek to create a world rooted in self-determination, freedom of expression, and gender justice.”
