Volume 2, Resources 9: Aid for India, What We Know About Covid-19, and Languishing
Hi friends! I am happy to report that after navigating the labyrinth of our health insurance, I have been able to set up my first therapy appointment. I also went to my first African American Wellness group (video group) and I learned a couple things that I’ll share in future newsletters.
It’s a resource week, so let’s jump in!
Resources: India Needs Help
India has been overwhelmed by Covid and it is absolutely devastating. Per this article from Wednesday (content warning for traumatic imagery):
There have been at least 300,000 new infections every day in the past week, with more than 360,000 new cases in the past 24 hours on Wednesday. Overall, more than 17.9 million cases have been registered.
First I have this crowd-sourced Google doc: http://bit.ly/MutualAidIndia. There are individuals needing help as well as organizations with targeted relief goals.
There is also a very large list for India Covid-19 Resources and Donations https://angryasianfeminist.carrd.co/ via angryasianfeminist on Instagram.
Another place to donate is https://www.giveindia.org/
Finally, here are a couple Instagram posts of round-ups
Resource: What We Know About Covid-19
Violet Blue’s weekly Pandemic Round-Up continues to be an absolute gift. Subscribing has been such a boost to my self-care regimen in terms of keeping myself from being overwhelmed by pandemic information. The round-up from April 22 has a list I didn’t know I needed and that I absolutely need to share with you: A list of what we know (or wish everyone knew) about Covid-19 with sources cited. Find it here.
Resource: Article on Languishing
This article has been making the rounds since it was published last week: There’s a Name for the Blah You’re Feeling: It’s Called Languishing. Unfortunately it’s a NY Times article but you can get a week for free if you give them your email OR if you have a library card, your library might have electronic access through their website, which is always my favorite way to get around paying for anything.
From the article:
Languishing is the neglected middle child of mental health. It’s the void between depression and flourishing — the absence of well-being. You don’t have symptoms of mental illness, but you’re not the picture of mental health either. You’re not functioning at full capacity. Languishing dulls your motivation, disrupts your ability to focus, and triples the odds that you’ll cut back on work. It appears to be more common than major depression — and in some ways it may be a bigger risk factor for mental illness.
The article goes on to talk about the power in naming what you’re feeling and some possible antidotes.
Something Silly
My feet are on the smaller side and so I get the joy of being able to fit into kids’ shoes. Recently I got myself these and I’m endlessly amused:
