Volume 2, Resources 6: Resource Round-up Against Anti-Asian Violence
Hi friends. I hope that you’re all taking care of yourselves. It is an exceptionally difficult time for my Filipino American and extended Asian community right now. I am a whole pile of anxiety about the safety of my mom, aunties, uncles, and cousins. Thank you to those of you who have reached out. I am heartbroken and scared and doing the one thing that I know I can do to feel helpful and that is to gather a list of resources for you. If you are a subscriber, you may need to click through to the full post if it does not show up completely in your email.
Before you do any reaching out to any Asian person you know, I desperately need you all to read this very short piece, “Advice from a black guy after the murders in Atlanta.”
This resource list is similar to my Absolutely Massive List of Anti-racist Resources for Black Lives Matter Allies, however, I took more time to curate and organize and not just brain-dump on you all. It is by no means comprehensive. I may update it with future resources that I come across. As I mentioned in the previous list:
Note: Reading all the books on anti-racism in the world is worthless if you aren’t also using your voice.
Remember: It is a privilege to be able to learn about racism instead of experiencing it your whole life.
Another note: If you’re reading this, you’ll probably continue to make mistakes around race. That’s okay! It’s important that you try and that when you receive new information, you learn from it. As long as you continuously try and learn, you are not failing. You ARE failing, though, if you’re not trying and if you’re keeping silent.
One last note: It is important to point out that this violence is mostly focused on the most disenfranchised of us: women, elderly, sex workers, service workers. We cannot have a discussion about racism without also talking about all the other intersections white supremacy touches.

Education:
CNN article “Attacks against Asian Americans are on the rise. Here's what you can do.” Mostly education with a few action items.
“Ending Anti-Asian Violence Requires Eliminating Anti-Blackness and Cercerality,” by Jordana Allen-Shim for Wear Your Voice
“Asian American communities grapple with whether police are the right answer to recent attacks,” by Li Zhou for Vox. Great article on the complexity of discussions around policing in Asian communities, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Stop AAPI Hate: via the about page, “Asian American communities grapple with whether police are the right answer to recent attacksIn response to the alarming escalation in xenophobia and bigotry resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council (A3PCON), Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), and the Asian American Studies Department of San Francisco State University launched the Stop AAPI Hate reporting center on March 19, 2020. The center tracks and responds to incidents of hate, violence, harassment, discrimination, shunning, and child bullying against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Our approach recognizes that in order to effectively address anti-Asian racism we must work to end all forms of structural racism leveled at Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.”
Multiple action items in this post from Celeste Pewter:
Donations:
Donate to the Atlanta victims’ families through AAAJ
Red Canary Song (United states): A grassroots collection of Asian & migrant sex workers, organizing transnationally. From their site, “We are the only grassroots Chinese massage parlor worker coalition in the U.S. There are over 9000 workplaces like these across the country with no political representation, or access to labor rights or collective organizing. Anti-trafficking NGO’s that claim to speak for migrants in sex trades promote increased policing and immigration control, which harms rather than helps migrant sex workers. We also organize transnationally with Asian sex workers across the diaspora in Toronto, Paris, and Hong Kong.
National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF): you can donate to the Atlanta chapter, though they do work in many parts of the U.S. Here is their press statement.
