Volume 1, Resources 6: Free Anxiety Workbook & A Wealth of Goodness
This is a public issue of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice. Feel free to share it!
Hi Friends! How’s everyone doing? I think I’ve reached some level of acceptance around the likelihood that we will be sheltering in place for quite a while more. With that, I’ve started doing things that make me feel more grounded and give me a feeling of self-sufficiency.
Like making my own donuts:
We also got an Aerogarden and are growing our own basil, cilantro, and mint:
I have been absolute SHIT at moving my body so Nicole hooked up the PlayStation3 and the PSMove and now we’re playing Just Dance 2015 and wow I had forgotten about most of these songs. No pics of us dancing because we are NOT graceful. Do my wife and I need to tire ourselves out like toddlers so that we actually sleep? Abso-fuckin-lutely!
Today’s newsletter is a resource issue so let’s get to it!
Resources #1 & #2: Coronavirus Anxiety Workbook and The Wellness Society
I recently learned about this free Coronavirus Anxiety Workbook and lawd I love me a workbook! This workbook is similar to other anxiety workbooks I’ve seen except this focuses on anxiety around the current pandemic. Many of us who already sustain some level of anxiety are Not Our Best Selves™ right now and some people who rarely experience anxiety are finding themselves with an abundance of it in the current crisis.
The workbook is in two parts:
“In Part One of this workbook, we’ll introduce you to several tools for dealing with anxiety.
In Part Two, you’ll create your Stress Resilience Action Plan for preventing and reducing autostress.”
I’m going to have to find someone who can print this and mail it to me because I want to work on a hardcopy. I also use any excuse to break out my multi-color gel pens, not gonna lie.
This resource was created by an organization that I hadn’t heard of, The Wellness Society. I’m not totally familiar with it, but the following from their “About” section seems to be relevant to my, and possibly your, interests:
“We aim to bridge the gap for people who find long-term private therapy unaffordable yet are reluctant (or unable) to get help from overstretched mental health services.”
Aside from the Coronavirus Anxiety Workbook, they have other free resources as well in their free tools library such as:
Understanding Your Mental Well-being Workbook
Introduction to Understanding and Healing Trauma
Introduction to Therapy
Indoor Nourishing Activities Guide
And more. Note that they are UK-based and so a lot of the links out to therapy are UK-based as well. I hope to eventually provide more US-based links through this newsletter.
Resource #3: The Greater Good Magazine from the Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) at UC Berkeley
From the site of the GGSC:
“The Greater Good Science Center studies the psychology, sociology, and neuroscience of well-being and teaches skills that foster a thriving, resilient, and compassionate society.“
From the site of the Greater Good Magazine:
“Greater Good magazine turns scientific research into stories, tips, and tools for a happier life and a more compassionate society.“
The Greater Good Magazine site is full of SO! MUCH! EXCELLENT! STUFF! A tiny slice of examples:
And more! I find myself going to the Greater Good Magazine site to click around and read things when I both 1. Want to be on the internet but 2. Don’t want to be consuming more awful shit.
That’s it for this week! If you enjoy this newsletter, feel free to forward it to a friend and/or give me a tip!
I’ll leave you with this:
