Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice Vol 4, Quickie 4: Kitchen Stuff, Best Books I Read (kinda), Podcast
This is a public issue of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice. Feel free to share it!
Hi friends! I’m doing myself a kindness this week and not writing a giant newsletter. Today (Wednesday aka “newsletter-writing day”) I went to the dentist at 8:30 am. I was there for four and a half hours. My dentist is amazing but there was much to be done and my mutant power is that my body processes chemicals really quickly. If I have a drink I don’t stay buzzed long and some medications aren’t as strong for me as they are for other people. This meant that my dentist had to numb me multiple times. The numbness kept wearing off.
Long story short, I’ve had a helluva day with a bunch of trauma-lama-ding-dong and on top of that, this is my first Thanksgiving without my mom. So I am being kind to myself and not writing much of a newsletter. I do have a few quick things to share, though!
Resource #1: EEDA Podcast
As I mentioned last week, we have our trailer up for our podcast! The podcast is based on this newsletter and I’ve convinced my wife, Nicole, to co-host. You can learn more at eedapod.com and you can subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. We’re finally on Google podcasts as well. We’ve actually already recorded the first three episodes and they’re with the editor right now. It’s been a steep learning curve and we appreciate you coming along for the ride.
Note: On the bottom of the podcast website there is a place for you to sign up for the free EEDA podcast updates newsletter. This mailing list is different from this newsletter.
Resource #2: The Infophile's Kitchen Gadget Recommendation List
I’ve been adding things to this list here and there. I’m always excited when I get messages that are like, “I bought that chopper you told me about and holy shit it’s a game-changer!” I know that not everyone loves to cook or bake but I hope that folks can find things on this list that at least help make it a more enjoyable (or at least, less terrible) experience.
Resource #3: Best Books I Read in 2023
This week I had initially planned on doing my annual list of the best books I read this year, like my 2022 list, and I’ve made a compromise: I just put them all on a shelf in my Bookshop.org storefront. If I find the spell slots to write up a proper post, I will; however, you can see them all here and as always, I have a few other curated shelves in my shop as well.
Recent & Current Reads
Inclusion of a book in this section is not necessarily a recommendation and these books won’t necessarily be added to my Bookshop.
Recently Read:
Currently Reading:
Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror edited by Jordan Peele & John Joseph Adams (Bookshop | Amazon | Libro)
Your Salt on My Lips: (Mostly) Queer Literary Erotica by Liz Asch (Bookshop | Amazon)
That’s it for this week! You can shop many books I’ve mentioned in this newsletter at my affiliate shop, The Infophile’s Bookshop, and support independent bookstores. In fact, any Bookshop, Amazon, or Etsy links in this newsletter are affiliate links so if you shop through those, it helps support my work. Or you can leave me a tip on Ko-fi, Paypal, or Venmo.
If you want to send me some snail mail, you can find me at P.O. Box 21481, Oakland, CA 94620-1481.
You can find our podcast, Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice on Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Spotify, and wherever else you get your podcasts.
