EEDA Newsletter Vol 6, Res 34: Hunger as a War Tactic & Project Healthy Minds

This is a public issue of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice. Feel free to share it!

Hi friends, Happy Halloween! I’m keeping this intro short as I want to make time to go sit at the keyboard (music) for a bit. Sometimes something’s gotta give in order for something else to be added.

New EEDA Pod episode this week!  Letting Go, Holding On: Lessons from Sorting a Loved One’s Belongings

In this episode of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice, Patricia and Nicole discuss the emotional and practical challenges of sorting through a loved one's belongings after their passing, sharing personal experiences and advice for others facing similar situations. They highlight the importance of community support, self-compassion, and taking the process step by step, even when going through their own belongings.

It’s a resource week so let’s get to it!

Resource 1: What Happens When 1 in 8 Americans Can't Buy Food? by Jessica Yellin and Rohan Montgomery

This article is packed with cited sources. What isn’t mentioned is that starvation is a known war tactic. People cannot fight back if they are starving. Hunger makes people obedient and compliant.

If you need help finding your local food bank either to meet your needs or for donations, use this tool: https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank

Resource 2: Project Healthy Minds

This is a resource-finder for mental health services and support groups. It seems fairly high-level compared to the more niche resources I’ve shared here in the EEDA Newsletter the past 6 ½ years. That being said, if someone is new to the circus of looking for mental health services and it is not an emergency, Project Healthy Minds might be a good place to start. It has made me think more about putting all of my resources into a wiki at some point, though.
