EEDA Newsletter Vol 6, Res 15: Viral Misinformation on Canadian Hotline & Budget Go-Bags

This is a public issue of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice. Feel free to share it!

Hi friends! We went on our annual fruit adventure last weekend where we picked cherries, bought a flat of freshly-picked strawberries, and ate burgers. The next day we made strawberry jam and I canned it so it should last a year, though I’m sure we’ll eat it before it gets that far. The following day we made cherry preserves that I also put through the water bath so we should be set for the summer. Maybe I’ll even be able to squirrel away a jar of each to have that flavor during the colder months. It was a lot of work but I cannot accurately describe the transcendental feeling of eating a cherry right off the tree when it’s the freshest it will ever be and still warmed by the sun.

Also, I got most of my hair cut off and it has already improved my life. The longer hair, while I loved how it looked, took so much time and labor to take care of. My head was constantly too-warm and it took 6+ hours to air-dry, which limited the times when I could wash it. Washing it took so much time, water, product, and effort. I literally have more hours back in my week and it’s amazing.

New EEDA Pod episode this week: Overachiever Syndrome: The Endless Pursuit of Doing More

This episode of "Enthusiastic Encouragement and Dubious Advice" features hosts Patricia and Nicole discussing recent events they attended, such as a Parliament-Funkadelic concert and an immersive theater experience about the Compton's Cafeteria Riot. They then delve into the concept of "doing enough," exploring personal feelings of inadequacy despite high achievements and societal pressures. The episode concludes with reflections on personal accomplishments and emphasizes self-compassion and recognizing one's own efforts.

It’s another resource week so let’s get to it!

Resource 1: Clarification: Misinformation About Our Hotline Number via Trans Lifeline

There has been some viral misinformation going around that “falsely claims Trans Lifeline’s Canadian hotline number (877-330-6366) is a new national suicide crisis line available to everyone in the U.S. due to recent political developments. We want to clarify that this information is INCORRECT.” Please read and share this short post about it. This post also links to social media posts where they discuss the misinformation.

Resource 2: Cheap and easy ways to stock your emergency go bag via NPR's Life Kit

First I need to point out that it is incredibly unsettling to see this post from NPR, like, what do you know, NPR? What. Do. You. Know?! Still, it’s incredibly helpful and so I share it with you. I know I’ve shared things in this newsletter in the past about earthquake prep and wildfire prep (hello from California!) and you can find those resource issues in the archives.
