EEDA Newsletter Vol 5, Res 21: Hard Voter Convos & Help From Sesame Street
This is a public issue of Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice. Feel free to share it!
Hi friends! What a week. On Sunday, we went to closing night of WICKED in San Francisco. It was Nicole’s first time seeing it and it’s one of my favorite shows. I think it’s the show I’ve seen the second-most number of times, at least two of which were with my mom, who also loved the show.
On Saturday, we got invited to play in the studio with Sarah Deragon of Portraits to the People. She is so incredibly rad and she got some excellent shots of us.

This week's EEDA Pod episode is titled, “Advice for the Coming Election/Holiday/Winter Season” and we chat about how we can prepare for the next few months. The end of the year can be difficult and complicated for some of us, and anxiety-inducing for most of us. The time change, the election, the holidays, and winter are creeping up on us quickly so we offer some ideas on how to make this time of year less stressful and maybe even a little cozy.
You can find our show, Enthusiastic Encouragement & Dubious Advice on Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Spotify, and wherever else you get your podcasts. You can also support the show on Patreon.
It’s resource week so let’s get to it!
Resource 1: Reaching Out to the Swing State Voters in Your Life
This is a resource for reaching out to the swing state voters who you know specifically. It is by Emily L. Hauser, a comms professional I came across on BlueSky. She shared this resource in response to someone posting this article:
In 2023, my sister Victoria spent more than 24 hours hemorrhaging into three diapers when Dallas-area hospitals declined to help her. “I know you’re not supposed to have regrets, but I do,” she said, about supporting Trump. “Look what’s happened.”
If you have a Victoria in your life, someone who would vote for Trump but actually doesn’t know much about his policies, this resource will help you talk to them.
Resource 2: Resources from Sesame Workshop
Yes, this is a great resource if you have children or work with children or have children in your life in some way and also I think it’s just a good resource. We can all benefit from Sesame Street characters teaching us about mental health or tough topics like grief or violence.
Bonus: Recipes to Make with Leftover Pumpkin Puree
The name of this blog leaves much to be desired BUT hey, I appreciate this round-up of recipes that make use of leftover pumpkin puree. Sometimes you open a can for a recipe but the initial recipe doesn’t use the whole so then what? She gives some facts and figures about the volume of pumpkin in a can and also some tips on how to store leftover puree in the refrigerator or freezer. The thing I appreciate deeply about this post is that she actually labels each linked recipe with how much puree it will require so you don’t need to click through on multiple things just to find one that will serve your needs.
